The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration warmly welcomes you to join us for worship each Sunday at either of our two services: 8:00 AM in Vail or 10:00 AM in Edwards.
Gaudete Sunday is the third Sunday of Advent, a day for rejoicing because of its Latin name, which means “rejoice”. It marks the halfway point of the Advent season and the focus shifts from penance to joy in anticipation of Christmas and the second coming of Christ. The celebratory mood is symbolized by the use of a rose-colored candle in the Advent wreath and the priest wearing rose-colored vestments instead of the traditional purple. Mary is central to this joy as the Mother of the Lord, whose “Magnificat” (Luke 1:47) echoes the day’s theme of rejoicing in God our Savior, as she embodied the fulfillment of God’s promises and brings us to Jesus, the source of all true, lasting joy.
