ECOT Now Has a Youth Ministry Vestry!

by Rebecca Cotton, Youth Minister

I am thrilled to share that we have formed our first ever Youth Ministry Vestry (YMV) to provide a sustainable structure and support to our youth ministry program. Please join me in thanking Holly Graves, John Raichart, Kim Nelson, and Sara Fisher for being part of our inaugural group.

What is a youth ministry vestry?

Our YMV is comprised of ECOT parents, youth, and church members and is charged to work with the youth minister to provide high-level support to the youth ministry. This includes meeting with the youth minister every 1-2 months, ensuring youth Christmas and Easter gifts are delivered, and helping to lead an annual youth kickoff meeting near the beginning of the school year.

Why is a youth ministry vestry important?

Having a YMV allows us to build a more sustainable youth program. The YMV and youth minister share ownership of things like an annual calendar of events, a youth directory, and annual youth traditions. Because of this shared ownership, this institutional knowledge can be preserved and maintained even during times of transition, such as when a new youth minister is hired.

If you are a youth, parent, or church member interested in joining this team in the 2019-2020 school year, please speak with Rebecca Cotton!
