Longtime local Hugo Benson passed away peacefully at home on June 25th at age 92. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1932, Hugo wore many hats in his long full life, serving in the Army National Guard and also serving as president of the Optimist Club in his hometown of Omaha, a third generation Mason, a member of our Eagle Lions Club, a member of the Town of Gypsum’s Planning Commission, a member of the Golden Eagle Senior’s Site Council, and a member of Valley Cruisers car club.
Hugo faithfully worshipped at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center as a member of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration. Hugo was a pilot, a businessman and an avid outdoor enthusiast. He owned a print shop in Omaha, a bar in Elk City, Nebraska, a restaurant in Silverthorne, Colorado and Old Gypsum Printers in Gypsum. Arriving in Colorado to ski, after skiing on Beaver Creek’s first opening day Hugo added climbing fourteeners, hiking, biking, rollerblading, rafting, and ziplining to his Rocky Mountain adventures while avoiding rock climbing and fishing!
More than anything he loved his family especially the grand kids and this entire Valley from Bond, McCoy and Gypsum up to Vail. He is survived by his spouse, best friend and life partner Jacki and 18 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and so many close friends.
Please join us for Hugo’s Celebration of Life at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center, 32138 US-6 Edwards, CO 81632 at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 8th. An on-site reception will follow.
