Dear Parish Family and Friends,

As we eagerly await the arrival of snow, we gather together this weekend to not only ask the Lord’s blessings, as the familiar Thanksgiving hymn goes, but to give and receive God’s abundant provisions in deepest gratitude!!  What a great weekend to come worship and serve at church!

thanksgiving-basketOn Saturday, please join us beginning at 8:30 AM at either the Avon Elementary School or the United Methodist Church in Eagle for our annual Salvation Army Thanksgiving Food Basket event.  We help our community compile and then distribute Thanksgiving food baskets in an explosion of canned goods, tubers, fresh doughnuts for workers and great volunteers of all ages.  Everyone can help!

On Sunday we mark the end of the Christian year with our annual Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan at both worship services!  The Kirkin’ is a liturgical celebration of family which comes to us from the Scottish church, although of course it includes everyone!  Please bring a beloved item of plaid or family tartan, or some other beloved fabric or family heirloom, to place upon the altar to be blessed before we plunge into the holiday season.  Decorated bagpiper Michael Lancaster will kirkintartanagain be with us, highlander heather will adorn the altar, and shortbread and tea will be served after church.  Feel free to wear your heritage-best to church….Celtic, Norwegian, and for those special few….even Swedish!!

Finally, please bring your pledge card to church to also place upon the altar as this Sunday marks Pledge Sunday for Transfiguration.  We are implementing such exciting and energizing ministries, new staff positions, and community service which all need your spiritual and financial support to succeed.  Thank you in advance, and let’s ask God this weekend to provision our church for the days ahead with humility and gratitude.  See you often this weekend!!

Warmly in the Lord,

Brookssignature
