Good Friday

BCP page 283. Promise! In fact find it here. The shortest worship service in the entire Book of Common Prayer is today’s Holy Saturday worship! Today marks the half moment “inside of the Triduum” sandwich, the Triduum being the Latin shorthand for the three days beginning with Maundy Thursday evening and ending with Easter evening. Malcolm Guite summarizes, “This is ground zero, emptiness and space/With nothing left to say or think or do/But look unflinching on the sacred face/That cannot move or change or look at you.” Whew. Today is the day for gently laying to rest all those parts of my life which need to die, to pass, to be put to rest. Today the day to think upon and pray for those relationships I cannot recover by my own volition or effort. Those dreams and desires and hopes I know will never be realized the way I once wanted them to be. To walk with gratitude for all the blessings I do indeed enjoy as living realities from a living Lord, and to release the rest by entrusting them to God. Some people and memories and desires need to rest in peace it seems. Jesus did. Those we love and see no longer do. Can we?
